Endosim was raised as a direct result of 12yrs of vetted research (see references).  A brief timeline below highlights the stepping stones and researchers that have spurred the development of the ex-vivo training module for the endoscopy world.

Development Timeline

  • 1997- The ‘Erlangen Active Simulator for Interventional Endoscopy’ (EASIETM) was created as a cooperation of the Departments of Gastroenterology and Surgery of the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen in Germany by Juergen Hochberger and Martin Neumann.
  • 1997-1999- CompactEASIETM and CompactEASIETM II- Juergen Hochberger incorporated endoscopic features into the original surgical model of Martin Neumann and developed the CompactEASIETM, a portable version of the EndoTrainer.
  • 2000- Kai Matthes joined the EASIE team in 1998 and contributed by developing the ColoEASIE prototype, which was presented in 2000. Juergen Maiss, another founding member of the EASIE team, modified this early colonoscopy simulator, resulting into the ColoEASIETM II, the current EASIETM colonoscopy simulator.
  • 2002- Jonathan Cohen and Kai Matthes develop NeoPapilla for ERCP training.
  • 2008- Kai Matthes founds EndoSim to promote use of ex-vivo animal tissue simulation for use in endoscopy training.
  • 2009- EndoSim supports ASGE, NYSGE annual meetings with ex-vivo animal models for hands-on courses.
  • 2010- EndoSim adds additional models to support ESD, EMR, Hemostatsis, EUS, and other models for various therapies and techniques within endoscopy.
  • 2011- Matthes expands EndoSim’s products to include consulting services for organizations developing new technologies. EndoSim formalizes consulting agreement with Ovesco for its OTSC device.
  • 2011- EndoSim working with Beth Israel Deaconess MC to launch endoscopic testing and training center.
  • 2012- EndoSim formalizes partnerships with industry to develop emerging technologies.
